Last Spring this mom found out about me by winning a giveaway on a local forum called The Mommy Nest. She used it for a session with her and her two adorable kiddos. She came back this Spring for a full family session and I’m so glad she did! We met up at a private orchard and had a sunlight filled session! The kids loved seeing the wildlife wandering about, like some Wild Turkeys and a Kitty that was a big hit with the kids! This is such a sweet and adorable family! But, enough chatter… here are some of my favorite shots from our session!

Moms!! It’s YOUR turn to get in front of the camera! You are such a huge presence in your child’s life… but how many pictures do you have WITH your child? If you’re anything like me… probably not many! Yes, even this photographer doesn’t have that many pictures with her in them.. So, that’s what this mini-session date is all about. Getting YOU in the picture with your children to celebrate that special bond you have! Be prepared with new jokes and ready for tickle fights and lots of laughs!!

There are a limited number of sessions that will be available so don’t delay in contacting me to book a session!

If you’re reading this and thinking…. “I need to lose weight first.” or “I don’t like my smile.” Just remember, your children won’t see your faults in the photos. They will see their MOM. They love you regardless and will treasure any photo of you. Even if you don’t take part of the mini-session date, please moms… get in the picture with your kids!! They will cherish ANY photo they have of you one day!

This would make a great Mother’s Day gift for yourself, your sister, your friend. Spread the word! Feel free to drop a little “Hint, Hint. Nudge, Nudge” to your spouses!

The Tamme family came back to me for Owens 1st birthday portraits. It was a very windy and chilly day so we opted for a lifestyle session in their home! We started out in PJs spending a little time in his bedroom. He LOVES to look out the window and has a fascination with the basketball goal outside! It was so cute to hear his little voice say “Ball” over and over again. When dad came upstairs there was nothing but giggles and smiles for daddy! He loves his papa sooo much… and I think the feeling is mutual! Eventually, we made our way around the house for some family portraits. The windows in the master bedroom were just to die for. Big brother Tucker was just too cute hamming it up on the bed. He totally wasn’t playing ball with me on there… nope. Not at all. Lastly, like most one year sessions, we had to end with a little cake smashing! There’s nothing sweeter than a little one grubbing and squishing on some cake!

Happy Birthday Owen! You’re such a big boy!!

The Gibsons – Lifestyle Maternity Session | Louisville, KY

I have so much I want to say about this family…. it’s hard to put it all into words! They are just the most fun loving and beautiful family.

We began our session in their home to capture some lifestyle images. I have to say, their dog is awesome. He was so patient and obedient and such a loving member of the family. I am happy we were able to get him in some of the images too!

After that, we hopped to the park next door for a few more pictures. They spend so much of their time at this park during the warmer months. It was so nice to capture a few images at a place meaningful to this family. It’s literally just a hop, skip, and a jump away from their house!

And the cherry on top… we headed over to The Comfy Cow for some ICE CREAM! Mom told me she had a major sweet tooth during this pregnancy and I wanted to capture that in a fun way!
I don’t know who was most excited for this portion of our session. Mama had a gleam in her eye while she watched her ice cream getting scooped and Big Sister AG was on tippy toes anxiously awaiting her treat. Oh… that AG was so funny too… She even photobombed a shot of her parents! I love her! She was pretty excited about that picture and wanted to see it on the back of the camera as soon as I took it. Such. A. Sweetie.
But, my FAVORITE part of the whole session was hearing Mama tell another customer: “I’ve eaten so many sweets, my baby will come out candy coated! ” Well, I can’t wait to meet that little M&M! She sure will be sweet!

I loved every minute spent with this family and am so thankful I was given the privilege of capturing this special time in their life.

Winter!

With a few days of snow, I’d say winter has officially arrived… along with some Spring like weather the day before. Oh. Kentucky. You like to keep us guessing!!

I decided on a whim to nab the kids and head outside, before playing in the newly fallen snow, to take a few pictures of them. I find myself not taking as many portraits of them lately… which is something I’m trying to do more of this year.

I took some time the next day to poke around our property line where we have an old rock wall and barbed wire fence… I’ve seen some wonderful photography friends of mine use freelensing and I’ve been intrigued by it. I decided to try it out on the rock wall and see where I got. I have much more practicing to do with it, but it was a fun first attempt I figured I’d still share my less than perfect photos. I do love the dreamy effect that freelensing gives. (the second and third image below were done with freelensing… the fourth the lens was reattached to give a comparison of freelensing vs lens attached)

Illuminate | Photography Class for Moms

What’s Included:

4 hours of instruction covering photography basics and how to shoot in manual mode
Snacks and Refreshments
Time to practice shooting during the class to get one-on-one assistance
A private facebook group for continued learning, feedback, and to help each other after the class is over!

What’s Required:

A Digital SLR camera (DSLR)
Your cameras manual – Bonus points for those that read it before the class!
The kit lens that came with your camera. If you want to take your photography up a notch, consider purchasing a “Prime” lens. A good entry level lens is a 50mm f1.8 if you’re on a limited budget. If you want to purchase a new lens before the class, we can discuss what will be best for you after registration. Otherwise, lens options and uses will be discussed during the class.

When: Sunday, March 17, 2013 from 12pm to 4pm

Where: 317 Wallace Ave, Suite 201, Louisville, KY 40207

How Much: This class is $125 per person. If you want to bring a friend, just pay $200 for the two of you! There is a 10 person limit to keep the class small for better one-on-one assistance.

Please Note: This class will not be covering any information on starting a photography business, advanced photography skills or editing. For two years I have been photographing the Crawford family. I met the dad in “Fishing Club” 15 years ago in Middle School, so when we were walking to our first location and I heard dad mention to his oldest boy how “we’re going to a pond, but don’t have our fishing poles”, it just threw me back at how much time has passed. I had a big smile on, inside and out, thinking about how much life has changed and how lucky I am to be friends with them. I’m so thankful my friend found such a wonderful wife and that we get along like peas and carrots. Their boys are 11 months apart and have such personalities, which are always evolving. One just turned two and the other will be 3 next month! How mom does it, I’ll never know. She does it beautifully though and has 3 wonderful men in her life. I can’t wait to photograph them again!

Back in May I photographed this super sweet family for little Liams 1 year portraits. Time flies mighty fast and the next thing we knew we were back on their family farm in a lot warmer clothes for Liams 18month and their fall family portraits! A little different scenery than our last session, but still a beautiful and meaningful location!

Baby Taylor | Newborn Portraits Louisville, KY

My best friend flew up from Florida for a super quick visit this fall. We carved out a little time during her visit to take some portraits of her new little baby girl. I am so blessed to be able to capture this time for someone that means so much to me. Since she doesn’t live in Kentucky, my normal lifestyle type session wouldn’t quite work, so we set up a blanket and worked on getting the little princess to sleepy land. I love her so much and she’s such a doll baby.
Baby Taylor’s adorable cousin was spending some time visiting while we had the session, so I stole him at one point to nab a picture of him, I mean, his outfit worked perfectly with some fur I brought! Such a studly 2 month old!
